Archant

Offwell Rangers 4, Sandford 2

Rangers boss Gary Osbourne saw his new charges win for the first time under his leadership and they were good value for the victory, their first since September.

Central midfielder Joe Knight who, together with Craig Sluman and Jamie Westwood, was central to all the positive play that the side produced, opened the scoring with a terrific shot from the edge of the area.

The lead was doubled when a Craig Sluman corner was powerfully headed home by Brett Sellick.

The visitors struck just before the break leaving Rangers with a 2-1 half-time advantage. Midway through the second period a speculative shot from 30-yards drew the visiting side level.

Rangers were soon back on the front foot and deservedly regained the lead when another corner, this time delivered by Dean Sluman, was punched clear only to fall to Ollie Cramer who rifled it into the back of the net!

Ten minutes from time came the crucial moment.

A Sandford player broke through the Rangers back line and was left one-on-one with 16-year-old Rangers glovesman Kieran Sluman.

However, the teenager, the youngest of the three brothers in the side, produced a wonderful save.

Moments later at the other end a Liam Spiller left foot drive brought an end to the scoring with Rangers 4-2 victors.

A delighted Osbourne said: “The team played very well and showed real character to bounce back after letting a two-goal lead slip. It’s all very encouraging. I see players now performing with a smile on their face and we need to continue that, and, if we repeat performance like this then we’ll soon climb the table.”
