Budleigh Salterton ladies booked a place in the final of the Westward Development Devon Women’s League Division One Cup thanks to a 3-1 home win over Axminster Town ladies, writes SpursTom.

Budleigh made a miserable start to the contest, losing skipper, and arguably their top defender, Kallie Horner, to injury inside the opening 10 seconds of the cup tie!

However, a reshuffled Robinettes defence did a good job, whilst Laura Stephenson, who is also an accomplished goalkeeper, caused the bulk of the damage to the visitors, finding the back of their net twice.

The other Robinettes goal was scored by an Axminster defender who got the final touch on a well-delivered corner from Amy Salter.

Axminster Town were forced to make a goalkeeping change during the second period, with Aneesa California going between the sticks, but though she was beaten twice, she pulled off some outstanding saves and inspired her team to reduce the arrears late in the game with a consolation goal from Stephanie Paynter.

The league cup final is set for this coming Sunday (September 24) when the Robinettes will take on a Halwill side that booked their final spot with a 3-2 semi-final success against Seaton Town ladies.
