Brixington Blues Under-16s made light of the fact they were two players short throughout to grab a superb victory with a second half 25-yard Ben Rowland strike to inflict a first defeat of the season on the hosts.

Much of the teams success was down to a solid defensive unit of Harry Trick, Harry Moxey, Nick Bolt, Jack Manning and keeper Max Tooby.

The commanding nature with which they kept the lid on the hosts Mike White Joel Rendall and Josh Whiller time to play the neat thoughtful passing game they are excellent at. Lone striker Ben Rowland was left to chase down a very capable Sidbury back line alone.

After a goal less first half the home side’s frustrations came to the fore and there was some harsh treatment dished out, particularly on Whiller and White, but to the Blues credit, they did not react and continued to grow in confidence. Mid way through the second half Ben Rowland, 25-yards from goal, looked up and drove a beautiful shot into the net to give Blues the lead.

Sidbury immediately put three at the back and pushed time and time again for an equaliser, but were met again by a blue wall that was simply not for being knocked down! At full-time each one of the nine Blues players came off the pitch with nothing left to give and that drew the warm applause of a home crowd to signal what had arguably been one of the finest collective Blues performances since they started playing together.
