Budleigh Salterton Res 2, Seaton Town 6

Budleigh Salterton Reserves suffered a double blow on Saturday by being informed that midfielder Aiden Martin will be out for approximately a month with damaged ankle ligaments, followed by a league defeat at home to Seaton, writes SpursTom.

A goal-keeping error by Alex Richardson as early as the fifth minute gifted Seaton the opening goal, put away by James Hill. To their credit the Robins responded well and equalized with a brilliant strike by Barnaby Pender on l5 minutes.

The visitors regained the lead on 21 minutes through Josh French, but again back came Budleigh to pull level on 39 minutes with Josh Hill on target.

As the interval approached Seaton got a slice of luck as the referee missed a hand ball in the build-up to Ben Ede making it 2-3.

Though Seaton are a very talented team with lots of pace, there was something lacking in Budleigh’s second half performance, their opponents were allowed far too much time and space which they were happy to exploit, and took the opportunity to rifle in three more goals (James Hill 62 mins, Ben Ede 72 mins and Harry Bullmore 83 mins), without reply. Several home players went off the boil, but Callum Shipton with his tireless running and the impressive Josh Hill gave it their all, and they jointly deserve to be Budleigh’s man of the match.

The manager would love to see more of his squad at training sessions. Please lads you are letting your team down by not being there. Preparation is very important.
