Robins Reserves beaten at University

Budleigh Salterton Reserves were beaten 3-1 when they travelled to meet University IV in a Macron League Division Three meeting, and with Cameron Brown having moved to Exmouth Town, the Robins Reserves are once again on the lookout for a goal-scoring finisher, writes SpursTom.
For the trip into Exeter to meet the students, the Robins gave debuts to new signings, senior players Ollie Henton and Christopher Wright and both newcomers performed well, and proved to be a calming influence on the younger players.
Though both teams played attacking football, the only goal of the first half - and the game’s only controversial moment - came in the closing minutes.
In the 43rd minute, Budleigh goalkeeper Josh Page saved well from point-blank range, but another University player was first to the ball and slammed it into the net. Almost from the re-start the travelling Robins strung some passes together which found an attacker unmarked on the edge of the host area, but as he was about to take a shot, the referee blew the half-time whistle!
Sixteen minutes into the second period Budleigh got their just reward when Ben Haycock tucked home the equaliser. As the game wore on the students were winning the battle in midfield; making use of the wings led to them regaining the lead on 71 minutes from a cross into the area.
They added a third nine minutes later as their fitness and togetherness, from also playing University League football, showed as they claimed victory to keep them firmly in the Division Three title race. For the Robins, they need to start collecting points, starting with this Saturday’s home match against Pinhoe.
