Pidgeon strike is a cracker and it seals 4-1 Budleigh Reserves triumph at Beer

Beer Albion 1, Budleigh Salterton Reserves 4

In one of only three fixtures to take place in the Fresha Devon and Exeter League Premier Division on Saturday, Budleigh Salterton Reserves extended their unbeaten run to four matches with the visit to Beer Albion, writes SpursTom.

The game was played in a swirling wind, offering perhaps slight advantage to whoever was kicking away from the clubhouse, which were the hosts in the first half. The pitch itself was very soft under foot. Budleigh had the better idea of keeping play to the wings, but things were tight in the opening exchanges, and possibly against the run of play Beer took a 16th minute lead with a well drilled low shot. Perseverance paid off with a vengeance for the Robins as they fired in two goals in a minute just after the half hour mark. Firstly Josh Hill came powering in like an express train into the area to equalise, then straight from the kick off the ball was seized and in the blink of an eye Liam Pollard had netted to send Robins into the break 2-1 to the good.

The host’s manager kept his players in the dressing room as long as possible during the interval, unfortunately for him it did not stop the determined visiting Robins, who pressurised his defence. Surprisingly it took 30 minutes before the next goal which I thought was wind assisted, but referee, Mr B Perryman, informed me that Budleigh’s Mike Pidgeon’s strike was a 25-yards right foot curler with the outside of the boot that sailed pass the keeper outstretched arms, wind or no wind he stood no chance!

The final goal of the game was a cracker too from Sam Schlaefli for a fine 4-1 away victory.

Squad: Alex Richardson, Zack Pearce, Tim Nield, Reece Stevens (debutant), Mike Pidgeon, Darren Everest (Alvin Pollard),Sam Schlaefli, Aarron Denny, Josh Hill, Liam Pollard (Nick Bartlett), Carl Wilson.
