Met Office 1, Otterton 2

The Otters bounced straight back from the previous weeks cup disappointment to bag three vital points in their bid for a second successive promotion.

Injuries from that cup defeat to Milwey Rise have lost them the services of their keeper for then remainder of the campaign with a broken hand and also the service of central defender Dinky Thomas for at least the next moth with a knee injury.

With four other regulars missing it was a chance for some of the clubs younger players to step up and they certainly took their opportunity to make a mark in the senior game.

Otterton started brightly and Gary Williams, Lee Mitchell, Ryan Mitchell and Charlie Copleston all saw efforts well saved by the outstanding Met Office glovesman.

The home side scored on the break to take a one goal advantage into half-time.

During the interval it was impressed upon the Otters players that they needed to make the amount of possession they were enjoying count.

Early in the second half Charlie Copleston’s pinpoint through-ball found the hard working Luke Iddon and he tucked it beyond the out-rushing keeper to level the scores.

Otterton continued to keep the ball well and, after a great cross into the box by Luke Iddon, they were unlucky not to grab another goal almost immediately

With the Otters back line of Adam Rolls, Simon Trim, Nick Tweedie and Pete Wannell looking solid the visitors went in search of a winning goal.

With 20 minutes to play Lee Mitchell was bought down in the box after a clumsy challenge and he got up to send the keeper the wrong way from the spot with what proved to be the winning goal.

Otterton boss Pete Mclean said: “It was good to see such a great response from the lads after the cup disappointment at Milwey Rise. We still have another cup semi-final to contest and remain well and truly in the promotion race so there is still loads for us to play for in what remains of this season. We have a great squad at the club now and the future of Otterton FC is looking very bright.”

Otterton Team: Vincent, Trim, Tweedie, Rolls, Mclean, Williams, Copleston, Yeomans, L Mitchell, R Mitchell, Iddon.

On Saturday Otterton make the short trip to Lympstone for an East Devon derby.
