Archant

Offwell Rangers were beaten 3-1 by visiting South Zeal in their latest Fresha League Division Seven game.

The first half saw an under-par Rangers side struggle and they went into the break trailing by two goals.

At half-time boss Scott Phillips rang the changes and introduced three substitutes at the start of the second period.

The new faces and fresh legs did the trick and Rangers dominated the first 15 minutes of the second half and deservedly halved the arrears.

Rangers continued to press, but chances were spurned and, as they pushed for an equaliser, spaces became evident at the back and were exploited by the visitors who closed the game out with a late third.

A disappointed Phillips said: “I played against South Zeal last season when at Honiton Town in a Division Two fixture. They are going to be a strong team in Division Seven. That said our first half display was simply not good enough. The huge plus for me on the day was how we turned things round after the break and, with a bit more composure in terms of finishing we’d have come out of the game with something to show for a much improved second half showing.”

Match day sponsors the Windmill Garage chose Dane Spiller as their Man of the Match.

On Saturday Offwell Rangers are in Geary Cup action when they entertain Chagford.
