East Budleigh 0:2 Willand Rovers

East Budleigh’s recent run was summed up in this league encounter as Willand converted a couple of chances where Budleigh couldn’t take theirs, writes Mark Auton.

Having both scored at Beer the previous week, Jeff Dorman and Chris Eveleigh both went close for Budleigh, but the only goal of the first half came after 20 minutes following uncertainty in the home defence.

The visitors also struck the woodwork in what was a half that saw Dorman punched and Budleigh generally roughed up, unfortunately the referee did not see the incident that would have reduced the away side to ten men.

At the start of the second period Willand sensibly substituted the offending punch thrower and it was Budleigh who looked more likely to score; Spencer West saw an effort come back off the bar and Dave Evans fired marginally over.

Josh Sale was pulling the strings in Budleigh’s engine room and his driving run almost created another good chance for Dorman.

Against the run of play Willand took their only real chance of the second half and from then on it was always going to be difficult.

Tim Whiteoak carved out a neat centre for Eveleigh late on but the ball just ran away and through to the keeper.

Budleigh visit Newtown on Saturday, whilst East Budleigh Reserves will hopefully be able to raise sides for a league fixture at home to Westexe on Saturday and a Carlisle Cup tie at Feniton on Sunday.
