Brixington Blues Under-12s moved confidently into the semi-finals of the Exeter and District Youth League KO Cup with a 3-0 win over hosts Crediton.
The teams had met earlier in the league campaign with Crediton winning 4-2, but Blues travelled with their status of cup holders and served up a terrific all-round performance to deservedly move into the last four of this year’s competition.
It took Blues just two minutes to make their mark in the contest with Bradley Higham starting the move deep in Blues’ territory. The ball was moved out right to Luke Ewing and he played a superb pass behind the home defence for Thomas Dean to latch onto and drill past the out-coming goalkeeper.
Just before half-time, Bobby Pond crossed from the right and when a home defender missed an attempt to clear, Samuel Sigwick pounced to fire the ball home and leave Blues 2-0 up at the break.
Blues were the dominant force from the restart, dominating the possession and looking comfortable on the ball.
The third and final goal owed much to the efforts of Cameron Horne, who unleashed a stunning shot from the edge of the area, beating the keeper, but being kept out by the bar. However, the ball fell for the supporting Callum Smith, who made sure it nestled in the bottom of the net!
Crediton’s chances were few and far between and Ben Jeffery had a quiet day in the Blues’ goal.
Jack McBryan was awarded the Player of the Week for a solid performance in defence, coming close to sealing his performance with a goal, but his excellently struck late free-kick was kept out by a superb save from the Crediton glovesman.
