Budleigh Reserves beaten at home by Clyst Valley

Budleigh Salterton Reserves were beaten 4-1 in their Macron League Division Three meeting with Clyst Valley Reserves, writes SpursTom.

The Robins, with only two of last season’s squad on duty, opened their home account with a Morgan Johnson strike on 19 minutes, but were somewhat fortunate to still be ahead at the break.

In the second half they were punished with some clinical finishing from the visitors.

This was the Robins’ second league game of the campaign for they had previously played away at Tedburn St Mary where they went down 6-2 with their goals coming from Adam Barlow and Morgan Johnson. It’s early days yet, but unless they can strengthen the squad, the management team of Graham Tapp and Gareth Davies have some hard work ahead of them.

It’s always sad when you have to give up playing the sport you love because of injury, and that seems to be the expected fate of Alex Paltridge. Alex is due to have an operation on Thursday (September 6) and everyone at the club wishes him all the best in his recovery. Alex, aged 23, is one of the most wholehearted players I’ve come across in local football; he is strong, versatile and gives his all for the team in any position – good luck to you, Alex.
