Lympstone 1, Sandford 0
On a very sticky pitch the Lympets emerged with all three points from a close encounter with basemen side Sandford.
The hosts looked bright in the opening exchanges and were quickly into their stride taking a 12th minute lead when a Chris Hooker corner was headed home by Andy Lowe.
Thereafter the remainder of the first half saw Lympstone dominate proceedings, but a combination of near-misses and some outstanding goal keeping by the Sandford glovesman, denied them further scores. They were helped by the depth of the cross bar when a superb strike by Mark Dunne from fully 30-yards beat the keeper only to cannon back off the cross bar. Just before the break the visitors finally found a way through the disciplined home defence, but Lympets keeper Scott was equal to the effort, producing a smart save.
The second half followed a similar pattern to the first with Lympstone bossing the game. Aaron Land and Mark Dunne controlled the middle third of the pitch, rapidly turning into a mud-bath!
With two-thirds of the contest completed Lympstone introduced Hayden Figures and Paris Waller from the bench and the pair, both making Lympets 1st team debuts, did not disappoint.
Lympstone close the game out to great effect to bag a seventh win in 13 Division Three starts and move up to fifth in the table.
The Man of the Match award was won by Aaron Land for his non-stop effort and ability to play football even on the trickiest of surfaces!
This Saturday Lympstone travel to third bottom Winkleigh looking to exact revenge for an early season defeat! Victory in North Devon would push the Lympets to the edge of the promotion places.
