It’s a big Saturday for supporters of Exmouth Town as they make a return to the FA Vase.

Town head for Tiverton where they will take on an Elmore side that are managed by Peter Buckingham who was joint manager of Cullompton Rangers for a spell last season with Town’s boss Richard Pears!

Pears says of then visit to Elmore and his renewing acquaintances with Eagles boss Buckingham: “It adds spice to the occasion the fact that we were working in tandem last season. An FA competition is always special, no matter what level of the game you are involved in. We want to do well in the FA Vase as it is a chance to get a higher profile and of course earn the club some money as winning FA Vase ties can be a lucrative business, especially is you are fortunate enough to make progress.”

Pears continued: “As for the Bucksie (Elmore boss Peter Buckingham) business. He knows me well and one thing is for sure he will be well aware that come 3pm on Saturday I will want nothing more than to see my team put one over his team. I enjoyed working with him and I have high regard for his football knowledge. However, I am equally certain that he will be just as keen to put me and my team in our place in this game! It has the makings of being a right cracker of a game.”

As for team news Town add Carl Rickard to the squad after he missed the game in midweek against Sidmouth Town.

Both Elmore and Town were in midweek action. Town of course drew 0-0 with visiting Sidmouth at Southern Road on Wednesday night whilst Elmore were beaten 3-2 at Shepton Mallett in a Toolstation League First Division game 24 hours before.

Budleigh are also in action as they entertain Okehampton Argyle in the South West Peninsula League Eastern Division Match of the Day. The Robins are unbeaten this season so far and are one of three teams sharing the lead of the fledgling table and a healthy victory at Greenway Lane would put them top of the table in their own right!

It’s Cup day across the Fresha Devon and Exeter league on the first Saturday of September.

Budleigh Salterton Reserves make the short trip to Topton St John for an East Devon Senior Cup 1st round tie, this game is being played at Withycombe Common with a 2pm kick-off.

Exmouth Amateurs are in Bill Slee Cup action with a 1st round tie at home to Bickleigh (2.30pm). On the same competition Exmouth Town reserves travel to Halwill and Lympstone visit Upottery whilst Topsham Town Reserves host Newton St Cyres.

In the Football; Express Cup East Budleigh travel to Mid Devon to face Uplowman and in the Geary Cup Lympstone Reserves host Tedburn St Mary, Otterton travel to Winkleigh and Colaton Raleigh Reserves entertain Cheriton Fitzpaine (4.30pm).
