Lawrence brace as Exmouth United Under-11s net seven at Whipton Youth

Exmouth United Under-11s were in fine form when they travelled into Exeter to meet Whipton Youth, who they defeated 7-0.

United were quickly into their stride and their early endeavours were rewarded when Alfie Yabsley rifled home a half volley.

The early goal enabled United to settle and, with the evident pace that United carried in their forward line causing lots of problems to the home side, it was no surprise when Dominic Lawrence raced onto a through-ball to net from just inside the area to make it 2-0.

When a clearance from the home defence landed at the feet of Jack Lopez, he needed no second invitation to thump it past the Whipton glovesman to make it 3-0! In the closing stages of the first half, Ollie Darville reacted quickest in a congested area to send United into the break with a 4-0 lead.

During the interval, United manager Carl Farr complimented his side on their first-half show and asked for more of the same from the restart. However, it was the home side who began the second half on the front foot, but their attacking intent was nullified by the excellent Jacob Ratcliffe in the United back line, who got great support from William Cotton and Euan Sutton, which all meant that United glovesman Noah Brown was called into action to make just one fine save before, at the other end of the pitch, Dominic Lawrence again raced clear before clinically finishing. Five became six when Ted McCaffrey pounced on a rebound in the six-yard box and the final United goal was scored by Louis Farr.

Jacob Ratcliffe was named the United Man of the Match. Team boss Carl Farr said: “This team is growing. Players are beginning to believe in their own abilities, they are responding to their coaching and they are prepared to work for each other to achieve results.

“As coaches and parents, we could not be prouder of this squad at present. They are a credit to the values of Exmouth United Football Club.”
