The Robins were missing a quarter of their usual match day squad, not the ideal way to tackle a side that had been beaten just twice in their eleven league outings this term, writes SpursTom.

The visitors were quickly into their stride and it was only a truly brilliant one handed save from Scott Bochenski that denied them an early advantage. It took a while before the Robins woke up, but when they did they gave as good as they got, and were unlucky on 15 minutes when, from a Daniel Swain pass, a good run and shot from Tom Rockey flashed across the goal.

A period of home pressure followed, but once again the visitors should have taken the lead, a defensive error presented a golden opportunity, which was not taken.

Neither side could find the target as a very evenly contested first half ended goal-less.

The second period commenced at a furious pace with both sides forcing corners within moments of each other, as the half progressed chances were missed at both ends, plus the keepers were giving splendid performances. Alas, tragedy occurred for the Robins when Owen Cresswell, who was having one of his best games, got injured reducing his team down to 10-men. The Saints seized control and finally broke the deadlock with about seven minutes remaining, Hayden Hill slotting home. The moment of the match came three minutes later when Budleigh were awarded a free kick just outside the box and Joe Taylor kept his shot low and hard, but Saints goal keeper Kye Fowler suddenly flung himself to his left as the ball bounced and somehow fisted it away to safety. It inspired his team-mates and, within minutes, Tom Burrows doubled their lead. In added time Hayden Hill added the third.

For the Robins it may have been a disappointing result, but there was no shame losing to the side looking most likely to end the season as league champions.

I must mention the referee Mr Phil Bialyk, who I believed handled potential situations very well indeed and kept the game flowing.

Budleigh are looking to add to the squad, and although new members will not be able to play on Saturday, any interested players would be welcome at their training session at the club at 6.15pm at Greenway Lane tonight (Thursday) with your parent/guardian.
