Knott at the double in Exmouth United Under-9s cup win

Exmouth United Under-9s eased their way into the last eight of the Exeter and District Youth League Cup with an impressive all-round show in which skipper Joel Knott scored a second half brace.

The first-half deadlock was almost broken by the hosts when, following a slick passing move Knott slipped the ball through to winger Carrick Howard whose precise cross fell to Cayleb Field. The striker did everything right and looked to have scored only for the visiting glovesman to pull off a superb save. Further excellence by the goal keeper denied United, but their persistence paid off when a neat ball from Baily Cochran found its way to the feet of Kuba Strazalowska whose crisp shot was deflected into the net by the outstretched hand of the ‘keeper.

The second half saw much of the same with United dominating possession. The visitors did carry a threat on the break, but got little change out of the solid defending Harry Kiflu Reynolds and Dylan Mogford.

It was from a fast-paced counter attack that the lead was doubled as winger Ryan Dart latched onto a ball from the back and crossed for Knott to thump the ball home. Just before the end Charlie Bowen provided the assist for Knot to score his second and complete the scoring. United keeper Oscar Gillies, although not that busy in the game, should be commended for his concentration and good feet for the sweeper-keeper roll which he has made his own!
