Exmouth United were one of the few sides to get action in either junior or senior football when they travelled to Acland Park, Feniton, for a last eight cup tie in the Exeter and District Youth League Under-9 KO Cup, writes Brett Collins.

The home side began brightly and deservedly took the lead when a long ball played down the middle was latched onto by the home striker and he thumped it beyond United glovesman Dylan Mogford.

Feniton, buoyed by the goal, took charge and were denied a second only by a superb save to his left by Mogford.

United eventually settled into the contest and began to get their regular passing game going and the equaliser came Bryn Stevens cut in from the wing and slotted a neat pass to skipper Joel Knott who curled the ball into the area where the home goalkeeper dropped it into the goal to send the teams into the break at 1-1.

In the second half United upped the tempo and, after some great approach play from Kuba Strzalkowski down the right flank, Knott was on hand to fire his team into the lead.

United then started to turn on the style and some superb interplay between Cayleb Field and Carrick Howard saw the ball find Knott who played in striker Baily Cochran. With only the keeper to beat, a nasty bobble interrupted the shot which saw the ball just skim wide of the post; it would have been a classic goal!

Cochran however, was not to be denied and, another terrific pass from Knott found him in space and, although the home defender forced him wide, he managed to loop the ball up and over the keeper to make it 3-1.

Feniton were not finished and came right back with a slick counter-attack goal that set up what might have been a nervous last five minutes for United and their large band of supporters. However, United were in no mood to concede a third and they saw the game out in some comfort to bag a last four berth in this season’s competition.
