Fulls stars as Woodbury make point at Ottery St Mary

Ottery St Mary 2, Woodbury 2

The Ottery St Mary ground staff worked wonders to get the Washbrook Meadows surface fit for play and the two sides did that hard work justice putting on a fine display of end-to-end football.

The home side began brightly, but their endeavour did not go as far as testing Woods goal keeper Simon Evans.

Woodbury opened the scoring in the eighth minute when Sam Glanvill Ford played a good ball to Dan Fulls who did well on the right before slipping the ball inside to Dan Tapp and he thumped it beyond the Otters gloves man.

Ten minutes before the break Ottery levelled with a powerful header from a corner. Buoyed by the goal the Otters were swiftly back onto the front foot and they struck again three minutes later to take a 2-1 advantage into the break.

The Woods changed things at half-time with Tapp being replaced by Josh Cuthbert and the formation was tweaked to nullify the home roaming full backs that had caused the visitors plenty of first half problems.

Within minutes of the restart the Woods were level. Pete Wright unleashed a powerful shot that the home keeper could only parry into the path of Dan Fulls and he made no mistake.

The goal gave Woodbury new belief and they went in search of a winner. Pete Wright had a mazy run and shot just wide of an upright before the home gloves man produced a wonderful save to keep out a Craig Leaman header after a superb cross by Glanvill Ford.

The influential Richie Ralph replaced the hard-working Declan Bourne, but it was the hosts who came closest to bagging a winner when they had the ball in the net with 20 minutes to play, but the ‘goal’ was chalked off for off-side.

Dan Fulls was named the Woods Man of the Match for a goal and an assist. JG Leaper also had a fine game at left back and got great support from Josh Cuthbert in the second half whilst Craig Leaman served up an industrious shift up front.

Woodbury: Evans, Glanvill Ford, Leaper, Hughes, Perry, Bourne (Ralph 65) Davies, Wright, Tapp (Cuthbert 45) Fulls, Leaman.
