Archant

Chittlehampton 3, Exmouth Town 7

Town prepared for their upcoming FA Vase tie by maintaining their unbeaten run with victories in the league and the Devon Premier Cup, writes John Dibsdall.

Last midweek a 2-0 victory over visiting Okehampton Argyle saw Town climb into second spot in the SWPL East Division.

The opening forty five minutes were the best Town have played this season and the only surprise was that they had only a solitary goal from Andrew Thomson to show for their supremacy.

the break the visitors adopted a more physical approach that for a while did knock Town out of their stride as they lost their earlier fluency.

As an attacking unit the visitors rarely threatened and another effort from Thomson saw Town to a comfortable victory.

Town’s trip to North Devon to face Chittlehampton in the Devon Premier Cup was a potential banana skin and a narrow and wet pitch much favoured the home side.

Any fears that Town may have had should have been dispelled in the opening minute when Ace High scored in the first attack.

Town also scored through Ben Clay on seven minutes and Karl Rickard with a twenty yard thunderbolt on twelve minutes.

At this stage Town should have been out of sight but in that opening twelve minutes they had also contrived to gift wrap two goals to the opposition!

A typical run and finish from Lloyd Gardner after twenty eight minutes gave Town breathing space and three minutes into the second half Gardner set up Dan Boere for the fifth and then Adam Hill skipped past two defenders before crossing for Ace to score his second.

With Town defenders appealing for offside the referee overruled the assistant’s flag to give the hosts their third but Hill scored his first for the club and Town’s seventh with two minutes remaining.

It was perhaps as well that Manager Richard Pears was absent on a scouting mission as he would not have been happy with some aspects of the defensive display which came as a complete surprise after they had been so dominant against Okehampton.

He would, however, have been more than satisfied with the overall result and that the goals are being scored from all areas of the side.
