Exmouth Town to face a title-making (or breaking) final week of season

Archant

Exmouth Town’s top-of-the-table clash against Ivybridge last Saturday was called off after a referee’s inspection due to a water logged pitch, writes John Dibsdall.

By a strange coincidence two of Town’s leading challengers, Bodmin Town and Plymouth Parkway, saw their clash at Bodmin also fall foul of the weather.

The match with Ivybridge has been rearranged for Bank Holiday Monday, May 5, which will mean Town’s last two games of the season are Parkway at home on May 3, followed, 48-hours later by that trip to Ivybridge!

Last Tuesday Town travelled to another of their title challengers, Saltash United and earned a very creditable point in a highly entertaining goalless draw. Town had the better of the first half and came close to scoring when Kevin Hill headed narrowly over. The home side shaded the second half but were unable to crack a resolute defence with central defenders Cameron Vere and Edward Weeks outstanding ably supported by the safe hands of Chris Wright.

Whilst the draw would have suited all the challengers for the title Parkway’s defeat at St Blazey on Wednesday evening meant they failed to capitalise and along with Saltash whose game at Torpoint on Friday evening was also cancelled may find that they have too many games to play in the last six weeks of the season.

Town are at home this Saturday when Falmouth are the visitors. The sides drew 1-1 back in November with James Ansell scoring for Town.

Since the turn of the year the visitors are one of the form sides and have won their last three away games with victories at Launceston, Bovey Tracey and Newquay.
