Exmouth Town get title boost with Plymouth Parkway midweek defeat

Exmouth Town are set for a ‘massive’ game when they visit Ivybridge Town on Saturday writes Steve Birley.

That’s because, after the midweek games, the two sides continue to sit first and second in the South West Peninsula League Premier Division table.

The Town title bid got a big boost on Wednesday night with rivals Plymouth Parkway being beaten 2-1 at St Blazey.

That came 24 hours after Town drew 0-0 at Saltash United in a game that saw both Town and the Ashes play attractive football, both giving 100 per cent with the contest played at a good tempo throughout the ninety minutes and well refereed.

Town had better of first half and had the best chance on ten minutes when Kevin Hill headed over after a well-worked corner routine.

Town gloves man Chris Wright made a couple of useful saves when Saltash tried to hit back on the break.

In the second half Saltash came more into it, but Town defended solidly and always posed a threat going forward.

It was a good point, though a draw also suited the clubs around Town in the battle for the title.

Now attentions turn to Ivybridge on Saturday.
