Exmouth Town boss Richard Pears spoke of his delight at the player’s performance at Okehampton.

He said: “We showed real character and, rather like all great sides, even though we did not produce our collective best. What we did serve up was good enough on the day to end the season long Okehampton unbeaten home record and give us another clean sheet success and three more points towards our ultimate aim. I’ll accept that it was not a pretty performance, but there are going to be occasions between now and the end of this season that we need to knuckle down, go head to head with teams and make sure we win the battles that inevitably emerge on the pitch. It was tough there at Simmons Park. The pitch was bobby and there’s a slope to contend with, but I thought the player’s attitude was spot on. We recognised early on that the opposition game plan was to put bodies behind the ball and we were quick to come up with a way of combating that. Of course, like most performances, there were things I saw which we can, and will, improve on. I thought our final ball was not good in too many instances. However, the one thing I am sure about with this present Town side is that they are all willing listeners., They are clearly prepared to take any criticism on the chin and regard it as constructive.”

He concluded: “We now move on to Wednesday night’s Stoke Gabriel cup tie, another classic is ahead of us and I can’t wait.”
