Exmouth Amateurs richly deserve share of the spoils in draw with high-flying West Hill Wasps

Archant

Exmouth Amateurs 1, West Hill Wasps 1

Exmouth Amateurs Under-12s produced an excellent show to so nearly inflict a rare defeat on a high flying West Hill Wasps side.

The visitors enjoyed marginal supremacy in then early stages, but Ammies gave as good as they got.

It was an Ammies individual error that led to the Wasps taking the lead just before half-time.

Ammies began the second half in the ascendency and chances began to be created. However, that elusive goal was not forthcoming and West Hill came back into the contest.

With 15 minutes remaining Ammies striker Lewis Cockayne was fouled in the area and up stepped skipper Max Handford to coolly slot the spot kick and atone for his error that had led to the Wasps goal;!

West Hill saw a shot cannon back off the post as the two sides traded attacks in an enthralling last ten minutes. Ammies gloves man Ben Dawson made a fine save and then launched a counter-attack that saw the ball arrive at the feet of Cockayne, but he could not get the better of the Wasps keeper in a one-on-one that proved to be the final raid of the game.
