Exmouth United Under-12s were edged out of the Exeter and District KO Cup by the narrowest of margins.

There was much for United to be pleased with in their overall performance, particularity as it came against opponents from two divisions higher!

In a first half that was contested generally in the middle third. The Exeter side did have the ball in the net, but from an off-side position.

As the second half developed it was more of the same with neither side able to get the upper hand.

The general consensus was that it looked al the away the sort of contest that might either be decided on a single mistake, or indeed just the one goal!

What proved to be the winning goal, had an element of controversy about it for Westexe had the ball in the net and again the flag was raised, but the match referee overruled the linesman and the goal stood!

United were quickly back o the front foot and substitute Adam Wilkinson met a corner with a powerful header that flashed marginally wide.

The closing stages saw United camped in the Westexe half, but without being able to net what would surely have been a deserved equaliser to force extra-time.

Neither side deserved to lose a compelling encounter which saw every player involved contribute to what was a great advertisement for youth football.
