Exmouth Town to spend a fifth week without action

Exmouth Town’s festive schedule was washed away without a ball being kicked in anger by the Southern Road side and that all means that they will be somewhat ‘under cooked’ when they return to action on the second Saturday of the new year.

Town’s meeting with Tavistock last Saturday was, like much of the South West Peninsula League matches set for the final Saturday of 2017, lost to a waterlogged home surface.

Town are without a game this coming Saturday (January 6) and so will next see action the following Saturday (January 13) when they travel to meet St Austell.

The game in Cornwall will be the first Town action for a period of five weeks – their last game was the December 9, 1-1 Southern Road draw with Callington Town.

As long as the weather dries and Town can then play their remaining games in January – they have home games on the last two Saturdays of the month against Godolphin Athletic and Camelford – it will leave them with a February 10 trip to Newquay after which they will have 10 matches to play with five of them at home and five away.

Town have added another youngster to their ranks during the festive break with the signing of Harvey Newman from Cullompton Rangers. Newman was part of the successful Cully Rangers Under-18 side that Town joint manager Andy Rawlings managed in the 2016/17 season.
