Exmouth Town made a winning start to the new South West Peninsula League Premier Division season with a 4-1 win at Elburton Villa.

However, on the coach journey home the talk was of how the travelling support had certainly left their mark on the hosts as they had left the Plymouth-based club out of food and drink!

Indeed, so impressed were members of the Elburton hierarchy that a posting was placed on the Cornish Football Forum post match that read: “In many a year around SWPL football, I have never witnessed an away support like that that Exmouth Town brought today.

“They turned up on a double-decker coach, drank us dry, ate us out of house and home, sung and cheered all match and then did not depart until late - they were a pleasure to host!”

The posting finished with: “Any club this season that have Exmouth Town come to you then my advice is ‘stock up’ with drink and food and ensure you have a good supply of pasties to hand!

“While the result was not what we wanted, it was a memorable day nonetheless.”

Town, who are in action again tonight (Wednesday) with a game at Tavistock, make their home bow this Saturday with a Southern Road meeting with Torpoint Athletic with kick-off being 3pm.
