Exmouth Town’s incredible season of cup football success continued on Wednesday night as they won their Devon St Lukes Bowl semi-final against Exeter City, beating a youthful Grecians team 4-1 in a dramatic penalty shoot-out after the 90 minutes of action had ended 2-2.
Karl Rickard netted a 15th minute opener for Town to shock the League Two side. However, Exmouth teenager Jack Sparkes leveled things up in the 75th minute.
When young Sparkes scored a second with just seven minutes remaining it looked as if Town’s Devon Bowl run that had seen them knock Plymouth Argyle out in the opening round, was going to come to a disappointing end.
However, Kevin Hill struck an 88th minute leveler to send the tie into a shoot-out.
Humphreys, Dirrane, Cooper and Charron all scored their spot kicks, whilst Town glovesman Kurtis Parkin made two splendid saves and the night belonged to Richard Pears and his cup kings!
The Southern Road crowd was just over 400.
On Saturday, Town return to South West Peninsula League action with a long trip down to Falmouth Town (3pm).
