A 2-0 home win over a mid table side may not seem on paper a startling result but Town’s victory over Okehampton Argyle was certainly most impressive, writes John Dibsdall.

Their first half performance was particularly pleasing as they passed the ball with confidence and ability throughout the side. Dominating for long periods the breakthrough came on thirty five minutes.

September’s Player of the Month, Jamie Moore showed why he had earned that accolade with a strong driving run from midfield. As he was finally tackled on the edge of the penalty area the ball ran for Andy Thomson to score with a left foot shot that the ‘keeper was unable to hold.

The visitors had played their part in an open and entertaining first half but after the break they appeared to be more interested in disrupting Town’s play than creating chances for themselves. The result was play became broken, niggles set in and for a time Town lost their fluency. Such is the strength in depth of the side, Manager Richard Pears was able to bring on experienced players from the bench and Town scored the second goal they needed on seventy nine minutes. A well flighted free kick from Lloyd Gardner was only half cleared and Thomson reacted quickest to drill a first time shot through a crowd of players into the far corner.

Okehampton rallied briefly but were reluctant to push players forward and Town ran out comfortable winners to extend their unbeaten run to ten games in all competitions.

Town are in good shape heading into Saturday’s Devon Premier Cup tie at Chittlehampton.
