Exmouth Town head for Wells City on Saturday for a 2nd Qualifying Round FA Vase tie.
At stake is a home game in Round One when the opposition will be one of two more Toolstation league sides, Bridport or Sherborne Town.
Wells City began their season with a 3-1 opening day home defeat at the hands of Hallen and then lost 2-1 in a midweek visit to Bridport before making FA Cup progress with a last minute goal to beat Barnstaple Town by the odd goal in five on August 11th.
A week later they were thumped 4-1 at Melksham Town in a league game and lost the following week, knocked out of the FA Cup by South West Peninsula League side Bodmin Town.
September began with an amazing 6-0 home league win over Bitton and a week later they put four without reply past visiting Barnstaple Town.
On Wednesday night, whilst Town were beating Newton Abbot Spurs 3-2 at Southern Road, Wells were also in league action. They lost 4-2 at Cadbury Heath where both their goals were scored by this season’s leading score in their ranks, those, his seventh and eighth goals of the season.
Town boss Richard Pears says: “Pound for pound they should beat us; they are a level above us and any side that puts six unanswered goals past any Bitton side has to be a tidy one. That said it’s the cup, not just any cup either for at non-league level this is the biggest cup competition of them all. It’s a one-off for us in as much as we have absolutely nothing to lose and can go there without any fear. If we get beat it’ll be more a case of ‘told you so’, but, if the players rise to the occasion and spring a surprise then they will deservedly grab all the headlines. We have a clean bill of health and are being well supported up there with a large number of travelling Town supporters to whom we are very grateful. Let’s hope we give them all something to be cheerful about on the journey home.”
