Exmouth Town and Ivybridge game has big Exeter City connection

Exmouth Town travel to Ivybridge on Saturday for what is the South West Peninsula League Premier Division Match of the Day, writes Steve Birley.

There’s a strong Exeter City link about the game with the respective managers, Town boss Richard Pears and Bridger’s boss Nicky Marker, both having started their careers at City!

Marker, who went on to bag a Premiership champions medal with Blackburn in 1995 was at City for four years in the mid 1980s. He went on to pay 1986 times. Town boss Pears made 60 appearances for City between 1994 and 1997.

It’s been an exceptional season for the Southern Road men so far.

After the Ivybridge game they will have to negotiate a further eight matches in their bid to net a top two finish which would allow them to move up into the Western League.
