Brixington Blues Under-10s made the short trip to Sidmouth for Exeter and District Youth League matches with Warriors and Raiders, writes Alan Diprose.

Both matches proved to be a celebration of good football and sportsmanship.

The first game versus Sidmouth Warriors was to be a very close affair. Warriors scored an early goal, but did not have things there own way.

Blues attacked and won countless corners, but were unable to convert any. Warriors then broke away to go two ahead before Blues top scorer Will White headed home from a corner.

The second half saw plenty of good football by both sides, but Blues were unable to find the second goal, and were thus edged out by the odd goal in three. Owen Shaw produced another committed performance.

The second game against Raiders produced one of those ‘did-it-or-didn’t-it’ moments with the ball and the goal line.

It was Blues’ Max Rickards who fired the shot and the referee correctly decided it had not crossed the line and so a close contest remained goal less through until half-time despite some foraging runs from Tom Humphry.

After the break the prolific White broke the deadlock to fire Blues ahead and they looked on course for victory until a superb long-range shot gave Raiders an equaliser.

With time running out, the Blues notched their customary last minute winner, this time through Matthew Rye. Praise should also go to Mathew Edworthy for his solid debut at right back.
