East Budleigh 0, Cullompton Rangers 3

Despite a below-par performance from East Budleigh the final score in this fixture did flatter the visitors, writes Mark Auton.

In a tame first half Cullompton were gifted a soft opener after 37 minutes, before Budleigh lost Steve Hitchcock to injury minutes later.

The only encouragement for Budleigh was the performances of Aaron Denny and Si Tuley who both looked dangerous.

The second half began with better football from Budleigh; Tuley was unlucky not score when his effort struck the upright and it was Tuley who again went close with an audacious flick from a Denny free-kick.

Cullompton had hardly had a kick in the half, but doubled their advantage with their first second half attempt in the 73rd minute.

Victory was confirmed with a third goal for the away side following a dubious penalty award.

Late Budleigh chances saw Tom Christian denied by a good save whilst Gary May and Tim Whiteoak saw attempts go marginally wide.

Budleigh will hope to bounce back from this when they make the long journey to Plymouth league outfit Morley Rangers in the Devon Senior Cup this Saturday.
