Archant

East Budleigh Reserves 2, Newton St Cyres Reserves 2

This was another hard fought fixture for East Budleigh Reserves who twice came from behing to gain a point against Newton St Cyres.

In the first half opportunities were at a premium as the sides were cancelled each other out; Josh Whiller was working hard for the cause and saw his shot saved, but after 22 minutes Budleigh failed to deal with a corner and the visitors opened their account.

Matt Thomas came closest before the break hitting the side netting after a Ben Rowland corner had been cleared.

Jack Howarth entered the action at the start of the second half and with Man of the Match Josh Sale driving the side forward Budleigh upped the anti; Aiden Martin went close and Sale had an effort cleared off the line from Howarth’s centre.

Budleigh levelled when Rowland picked up a Mark Bown clearance and when the ball dropped for substitute Tom Christian his sweetly struck volley rippled the back of the net with his first touch.

Bown came off his line to block well, but will have been disappointed to see a long range chip give the Exeter side the lead again.

Budleigh continued to plug away and when Sale played in a free-kick Howarth made a nuisance of himself in the box and the ball ended up past the keeper and in the net.

Overall a draw was probably a fair result for Budleigh who visit Starcross generals on Saturday.
