East Budleigh Reserves edged out by Priory

East Budleigh Reserves 1, Priory 2

East Budleigh Reserves were unlucky not to get at least a point in this one after a having a goal not given that had clearly crossed the line, writes Mark Auton.

Midway through the second period a corner from Matt Thomas gained a couple of deflections and looked to have crossed the line, but both referee and linesman did not concur.

The first half saw Budleigh have the better of things, a well struck Matt Thomas corner gave Priory a warning after 20 minutes and 14 minutes later it was his kick that was this time glanced in by Paul May.

Previous to the goal a long-range Gary Western ball had to be clawed over by the Priory keeper to win the corner, but it was the away side who had a good chance heading wide midway through the half.

Unfortunately for Budleigh the second half did not start like the first with they away side scoring trice to turn the game on its head.

Budleigh tried hard to do the same; Ryan Britton has a shot turned away for a corner and when Thomas struck the ball in it ricocheted off a couple of players before being cleared despite being over the line.

A good move involving Thomas and Britton led to May firing just wide before substitute Ben Rowland hit a screamer against the bar.

Adam Wheatley prevented a third heading off the line in what was not a good day at the office.

For Budleigh Thomas worked hard along with Man of the Match May.
