East Budleigh Reserves 3, Topsham Town 4ths 1

East Budleigh Reserves came from behind to collect all three points with a solid team performance, writes Mark Auton.

Budleigh were the better side for the majority of the game and in the opening exchanges Joe Rosser, Colin Jeans, Adam Wheatley and Alex Manning all tried their luck to open the scoring.

As always in football if you don’t take your chances the inevitable happens and it was the away side that took advantage of sloppy defending to take the lead after 34 minutes.

Budleigh’s reply came within three minutes when Greg Konopka produced a special goal curling a left foot shot into the top corner.

Moments before the interval Budleigh had turned the game on its head.

Quick distribution from Budleigh keeper Mark Bown saw Konopka challenge and when the ball reached Manning he did well to hold off his marker and produce a fine finish into the far corner of the net.

The second half was all Budleigh; Konopka should have made it three, substitute Dan Atkinson rattled the crossbar and Louis Jeans headed wide from a Wheatley centre.

The third and decisive goal came courtesy of a Topsham defender who under challenge from Konopka lifted the ball over his own keeper from a Colin Jeans’ through ball.

Konopka was voted Man of the Match, whilst Pete ‘the Pole’, Matt Jones and keeper Bown all did well.

This Saturday Budleigh have another home game when they host Amory Argyle (2.15pm).
