East Budleigh 4, Alphington 0

East Budleigh recorded their first victory of the season to progress to the next round of the Devon Senior Cup thanks to a brace of goals from both Si Tuley and Jack Howarth., writes Mark Auton.

The Man of the Match award went to Tuley although Tim Whiteoak ran him close with another midfield master class.

In a scoreless first half Budleigh had more of the play but were restricted to half chances; A Gary May pass for the run and cross of Alex Manning almost got Tuley in and when the same player tried his luck from an Aaron Denny ball his effort was charged down.

At the other end Budleigh were comfortably dealing with what was thrown at them

The second half was a much better watch and Budleigh took the lead five minutes in; The impressive Tuley conjuring up a special goal from a narrow angle curled over the keeper and into the far corner of the net.

Despite the goal the Exeter side had their moments but captain Phil Page marshaled his defence well and with May and Darren Dawes working hard in front of keeper Rob Dance who handled competently.

The second goal to kill the tie came thirteen minutes from time; Denny providing the pass for Tuley to fire a left foot finish past a helpless keeper.

It was then time for Budleigh to turn on the style Howarth rolled in number three before adding an exquisite fourth with a screamer from the edge of the box into the roof of the net to complete the rout.

Budleigh should take confidence from this result into Saturdays East Devon Senior Cup tie against Chard (2.30pm).
