Otterton 1, East Budleigh 1

East Budleigh Reserves made the short journey across the water to Otterton last Saturday to face the league leaders on what was a blustery afternoon, writes Mark Auton.

It was an entetaining encounter, full of incident, fought out by local rivals on what was a heavy surface.

Budleigh started well, but had to clear off the line as the hosts threatened, but the midfield partnership of Harry Trick and Ben Wyatt gradually gave Budleigh a strong foothold in the game

First blood was drawn by Budleigh when Paul May rose to head home a Ben Wilks centre after picking up a pass from Dan Atkinson.

The second period saw Budleigh playing against an ever increasing breeze, but Otterton were never severely testing keeper Mark Bown.

At the other end Atkinson met a Tom Chritian corner with a firm header, but was denied as the Otters cleared off the line. Minutes later the equaliser came when the visitors failed to clear from a corner and former Budleigh player Si Tuley produced an assured finish.

Budleigh had a chance to win the game late on from the penalty spot but the Otters keeper made a fine save.

A late red card saw the home side finish with ten men, but hold on for a point.

For Budleigh Ben Wyatt worked tirelessly, Heydon did well from the bench, whilst Gary Western and Adam Wheatley played well at the back, but the Man of the Match went to Rich Wyatt.

It was a good all round effort from a Budleigh side against a team that were forced to drop their first home points of the season!

On Saturday Budleigh host Uplowman at Vicarage Road whilst the first X1 will hope to return to action when they visit Wellington.
