Cullompton Rangers 9, Brixington Blues 3

Brixington Blues Under-11s travelled to high-flying Cullompton Rangers, and in atrocious conditions put on a determined display for the drenched crowd, writes Alan Diprose.

Cully appeared surprised by Blues slick passing and, for the first ten minutes, it was all Blues. Tom Humphry and Sam Diprose both hit the post whilst Max Rickards also went close. Blues were playing with a belief not seen many times this season, but could not turn their superiority into goals.

The deadlock was broken when the home side got a lucky break, but this served top open the floodgates!

Five further home goals followed before Sam Diprose got one back for Blues on the stroke of half time.

Blues rolled their sleeves up for the second half and took the game to the Mid Devon side.

For the first 10 minutes Blues were so on top that stand in keeper Matthew Rye didn’t even touch the ball!

Scott Simpson-Currie and Luke Buck were in tremendous defensive form and Tom Humphry, Will White, Owen Shaw and Will Cooper worked tirelessly in midfield.

Cully got four more goals whilst Sam Diprose thundered home a splendid volley.

In the dying embers of the game Jake Diprose burst through on goal and was denied by the Cully Keeper, but brother Sam was in support and he tucked the ball home to register his first hat-trick of the season.

Cully manager Karl Newell agreed that the 9-3 score line was very harsh on the Blues given the amount of possession they had enjoyed in the game.
