Robins Reserves manager Duane Greenslade found himself afforded the luxury of a strong 17-man squad for this Fresha League top flight game, writes SpursTom.

There were some squad members unhappy at being left, but, of those on duty six took part in the previous meeting between the two teams when they met in Exeter in October.

The Robins were quickly into their stride forcing early corners and having a shot cleared off the line as early as the third minute.

They continued pressing forward with lone striker Sam Schlaefli a constant threat, but without a goal the pressure deserved.

At the other end of the pitch the students approach work looked good until they came up against the solid back line of Wilson, Pearce, Perkins and Radford ably supported by holding midfielder Jack English.

The visitors almost took the lead on 32 minutes when a free-kick cannoned off the crossbar.

On the stroke of half-time Schlaefli headed into the net, but his joy was short lived as he was adjudged to have gained an unfair advantage with a push.

The second period followed similar pattern to the first, within minutes Callum Shipton curled a shot just wide, the visitors defence was being stretched with their keeper in fine form punching any dangerous crosses.

Twice inside as many minutes the glovesman made superb saves to further frustrate the home side.

In contrast, Robins keeper Jordan Hockold was having a comfortable afternoon.

With just nine minutes remaining the deadlock was broken when the Robins were awarded a penalty that Dave Radford calmly slotted to the keepers right.

The frame of the goal denied the Robins a second as they saw the game out in some comfort.

Aaron Denny was outstanding in midfield in this welcome win.

Weather permitting Budleigh are due to take on Thorverton at home on Saturday.
