East Budleigh continue to sit in a Macron League Division Three top three slot after a 2-1 home win over Sandford, writes Mark Auton.

This was a game that Budleigh controlled from start to finish and they should have added to a brace from Hugo Demetre that secured the points.

The opening goal arrived after 11 minutes; Demetre laid the ball off for Jacob Rice, whose intelligence allowed him to pick out the pass that Demetre slotted neatly into the net.

Liam Mathew was curiously denied a Budleigh second by the referee, before the away side scored with their first shot after sloppiness from the hosts.

Order was restored just three minutes later, with Tim Nield and Rice involved in setting up that man Demetre, who squeezed the ball home.

After the interval, Budleigh continued to create chances with both Rice and George Harris menacing on the flanks. Somehow Budleigh were not as good in the final third as Liam West, Harris and Mathew all failed to hit the target.

Man of the Match Demetre went close to a hat-trick from a Matt Jones centre, leaving Budleigh comfortably holding on for the win.

This Saturday (October 6) The Jays are on the road, where they visit Tedburn St Mary, who sit ninth in the table with six points from their first five league outings this season.
