The Robins responded well to their midweek disappointment with a fine all-round show in Exeter, writes Alan Beer.

The midweek angst was caused by a narrow defeat to title-chasing Teignmouth Town who banked the points with a large slice of good fortune when a late Robins leveller was wrongly ruled out for offside!

Saturday’s visit to Exeter did not start well as the students took a second minute lead when John Kinsey’s cross into the 6-yard box from the left was touched in by Jamie Bayliss. It took The Robins only four minutes to get level, with Carl Everest heading home from a corner. Eight minutes later player-boss Danny Williams made it 2-1 from the penalty spot after a hand-ball in the students’ area.

Just two minutes later it was 3-1 when Sam Woodin flicked on a corner kick

and Everest slotted in at the back post. The students were reduced to ten men through injury and, with no substitutes available, were forced to play the remainder of the contest a man short!

Callum Shipton increased the lead further turning on the edge of the box and firing past Uni keeper Matt Slack on 37 minutes to send the Robins into the break with a commanding 4-1 advantage.

Just past the hour mark Shipton turned provider, slotting the ball through for George Pannell to run onto and score. Shipton missed a chance to grab his second when he was one on one with the keeper who he failed to beat. With two minutes remaining Jack Pearce, on as a sub to make his Robins debut ,did well to head a goal bound effort onto the cross bar to deny the students a second.

Budleigh: Hockhold, Carr, Lever, Everest, Woodin (Pearce), Hill (Wright), Denny, Pannell, Shipton, Williams, Greenslade. Sub not used; Demetre.

The Robins are now not in action until the Good Friday game at Sidmouth Town (11am).
