Budleigh Salterton FC honour SpursTom for his season’s endeavours

Last Saturday, approximately 140 members and guests attended Budleigh Salterton Football Club’s Presentation Evening, which included a buffet meal, disco and late bar as well as the handing out of trophies, writes SpursTom.

Club chairman, Peter Savage, opened the proceedings with a welcome speech and thanks to the backroom staff for all the hard work put in during the season.

He then called on the club’s youth team who in their final season finished third in the Exeter and District Youth League Under-16s Division Two.

Manager Terry Williams assisted by youth secretary Amanda Larsson-Carter presented trophies to James Clarke (top goal scorer), Harry Moxey (players’ player) Sam Smith (manager’s player) and the most improved player was Nathan Penhallurick.

It was then the turn of the victorious women team who on the Wednesday before had collected the cup as Devon Women League Division One Champions. Manager Alan Barnsley and his assistant Chris Pusey handed out their league winners medals before the following awards: Lucy Richardson (top goal scorer), most improved player runner up Katherine Binmore and winner Olivia Young. Manager’s player runner up Kallie Horner, winner Chelcey Greasley and player’s player runner up Katherine Binmore, the winner being Abby Yukon.

The Budleigh Salterton Reserves who play in the Fresha League top flight saw the awards go to: Manager’s Player to Aaron Denny, Most Improved Player to Ross James, Top goal scorer to Sam Schlaefli and finally the Players’ Player of the Year award which went to a most deserving Aarron Denny.

The first team winners were: Manager’s Player, Calum Shipton, Players’ Player to Matt Dawson and leading scorer to Matt Dawson.

Following the end of the teams’ awards two more remained to the presented by the chairman. Firstly for services to football the Knowle Garage Trophy went to secretary of the ladies team Kelly Browring. The final accolade of the night that of Clubperson of the Year was not only an extreme shock, but a great honour to yours truly, yes me ‘SpursTom’.

Many thanks to the committee and all members for a great and emotional night.
