Budleigh Salterton Reserves 0, Heavitree Social United 7
It was very much a case of after the Lord Mayor’s show as Budleigh, so impressive just seven days before, disappointed on a grand scale, writes SpursTom.
That said they were up against a very slick Exeter side who were clinical in their finishing!
The visitors broke the deadlock about a quarter of the way into the first half with a Luke Crocker header.
The circumstances, in which they increased their lead, showed it was not to be Budleigh’s day.
Keeper Jordan Hockhold made a good save, and, while two defenders tried to clear, the ball bounced like a pinball from one to the other before resting into an empty net.
That’s how the score remained to the break.
In the second half Heavitree Social were in no mood to be sociable as they lay siege to the Budleigh goal, firstly the lively Crocker doubled his tally to make it 3-0 before a goal from Naill Power and a hat-trick from Nathan Melton, completed the scoring.
From this scribes point of view Sam Richards deserved to be Man of the Match for Budleigh, not only was he playing out of his normal position, but he had the task of being up against perhaps the best player on the field, the visiting right midfielder Luke Crocker, and he stuck to his task very well throughout.
