Archant

In 2011, two passionate soccer enthusiasts named Anita James and Amy Earl formed a team partly as a way of socialising and called themselves ‘Budleigh Bicton’, joining Division One of the Devon Women League, writes SpursTom.

Some of the girls knew nothing about football, much less played the game. They lost some matches heavily, therefore suffering with retaining and obtaining players, but they kept on going!

The pair’s admirable perseverance has clearly paid off. For the start of the 2013-2014 season the Bicton was removed from the name with the team adopting the title of Budleigh Salterton Ladies FC.

Kelly Browing took over as secretary and, with added help, more players were recruited whilst Anita fulfilled the rolls of player coach and acting manager.

It all took off in the very first match of this season with the team winning at Tavistock Ladies (one of the title favourites), going on to be the only side to take points from Activate Ladies (the other favourites).

Alan Barnsley was eventually recruited as manager in October, and with his assistant Chris Pussey has kept the momentum going, making the Robinettes the shock team of the season so far.

This coming Sunday (April 27), their final league match is at home to Morley Rangers Ladies (2.30pm). They really would appreciate all the support possible. Please do come along.
