Budleigh Salterton 2, Totnes and Dartington 1

A good week for the Robins ended with a second South West Peninsula League Division One East victory inside five days, writes SpursTom.

Though kicking against the strong wind, it was the visitors who made the first attacking moves, forcing an early corner and almost beating the offside trap.

However, it was not long before the Robins woke up, pressed forward, and were duly rewarded for some fine attacking football when, in the ninth minute left back Reece Stevens rifled a brilliant low strike into the net.

The visitors came back, but were hit by a clinical second from the hosts in the 17th minute.

The two stand-out Budleigh players on the day, Stevens and Karl Riddell combined well to set up George Pannell to double the home lead.

Six minutes before half-time Budleigh skipper Josh Sale was given a straight red card when he pulled back a visiting striker.

Budleigh survived the threat and keeper Alan Doble went into the interval with his goal unbreached.

Totnes and Dartington raced out of the blocks at the start of the second half and used their extra man to great effect.

However, they were presented with a solid and robust Budleigh defence who, though pinned back for long periods and it was to the back fours credit that player manager Danny Williams opted to not to introduce fresh legs until the hard-working Stevens was given a breather, being replaced by Ryan Howells.

The award of a late penalty, duly converted by visiting substitute Liam Collins gave his side hope, but Budleigh were not to be denied a second win of the early season to make it back to back wins since that opening day home defeat at the hands of Brixham.

Budleigh team: Doble, Wilson, Stevens, Riddell, Sale (captain), Denny, Pannell, Wright, Greenslade, Williams, Shipton, Howells, James.
