Budleigh Under-16s hit by the visiting Rockets

After two long months of weather-enforced inactivity the Budleigh Under-16s finally got back onto a football pitch for competitive action, writes SpursTom.

The visitors pitched up sporting a one hundred per cent win record this season and had already won the meeting between the teams in Exeter earlier in the season.

The hosts, already without a number of regulars, then lost Russel Williams to a knee injury after just five minutes!

His replacement Kai Guise and teammates put in a lung bursting attempt trying to wrestle at least a point even as they were put under tremendous pressure.

The only goal of the half came from the visitor’s strong front man Deji Akinpelu.

It was a difficult proposition chasing the game against a well-marshalled defence.

However, the Robins continued to battle despite the majority of the play being in their own half.

Two goals in as many minutes settled the outcome as James Mattin and Akinpelu with his second completed the scoring.

No individual should be singled out because everyone on the field of play needs to be congratulated for commitment and effort. The referee also contributed to a wonderful match.
