Budleigh Salterton ease drop concerns with fine point at Crediton United

Archant

Budleigh Salterton all but ended any doubts about their staying in the South West Peninsula League Eastern Division when they returned from a midweek visit to Crediton United with a richly deserved share of the spoils from a game that produced six goals.

After falling behind in the ninth minute, Budleigh were quickly back on level terms. It was just two minutes after conceding that they struck with Callum Shipton the scorer.

Eight minutes later Hugo Demetre netted, but in an all-action first half, a 24th minute second for the home team left things all square at 2-2.

A second for the lively Demetre sent the Robins into the break with a 3-2 advantage.

The second half could not match the first in terms of goals with just one more being scored to see honours end even.

The point leaves Budleigh five clear of basement side Exwick Villa and both teams have three more matches to play.

Budleigh are back in action on Thursday night with a Greenway Lane home match against Macron League Premier side Upottery with kick-off at 7.30pm and a place in the final of the Axminster Hospital Cup at stake.
