Budleigh Salterton Reserves 4, Seaton Town 2
The Robins were good value for another three Fresha League top flight points in a thrilling game played in a cold and strong wind at Greenway Lane, writes SpursTom.
In the visiting line-up were former Budleigh player Michael Hancock together with his brothers Matt and Martyn, and another Hancock, Mark, was on the bench!
The hosts had the wind at their backs and made good use of this as early as the second minute when a cross-field pass sent Jack Greenslade racing down the left.
He cut inside and unleashed a fierce strike that came back off the upright and fell to Arron Denny who thumped it home.
The next 25 minutes saw precious little between two well-matched teams. In the 28th minute the lead was doubled when Greenslade hit another screamer that flew into the net. However, the best was still to come as, with halftime nearing, a 35-yard hit by Karl Riddell looped over the visiting keeper to send the Robins into the break with a 3-0 lead.
The lead was extended to 4-0 early in the second half when left back Reece Stevens sent a ball over the defence that Denny controlled and fed to Callum Shipton who made no mistake.
Seaton, to their credit, fought back well and Martyn Hancock pulled one back.
That was the signal for Town to lay siege to the Robins goal, but they got no change out of the impressive Alex “Pickles” Richardson in the home goal. The glovesman produced a Man of the Match display with a string of fine saves, whilst at the other end chances were squandered, and the close control work by Denny in the area deserved a better finish.
Jake Richards made it 4–2 late on to complete the scoring in an entertaining game.
Budleigh Salterton: A Richardson, M Pidgeon (Capt), R Stevens, Z Pearce, T Nield, A Denny, J Hill, C Shipton, J Greenslade, K Riddell, R Higham, D Radford, I Perkins and R James.
On Saturday Budleigh Reserves are without a game as it is County Cup day with a reduced Fresha League programme.
