Budleigh in seventh heaven against University

Budleigh Salterton claimed their first success of the new league season at the fifth time of asking as they powered to an emphatic 7-2 Greenway Lane success against University.
Town boss Kevin Hill played in a back four that also included Liam Ellis and the two Karls, Riddell and Everest, and, in front of goalkeeper Alan Doble, the back line as a unit looked solid and assured throughout.
The Robins began with a good tempo to their game and they took the lead in the 15th minute when Aaron Denny got to the bye line before cutting the ball back to Callum Shipton, who swept it home.
Two minutes later, Denny, making his first appearance since leaving Barnstaple Town for the Robins, was the orchestrator once more as he danced through a number of tackles before lifting the ball to the far post where Dan Boere headed it home.
A third goal inside four minutes put Budleigh in total control and, once again, it was the mercurial Denny at the heart of it as he weaved his way into the box, where he was hauled down and Boere slotted the resultant spot kick.
On the half hour it was 4-0 with Harry Gibbings the goal scorer and a superb first-half team show was rounded off as Gibbings struck again to send the Robins into the break with a 5-0 lead.
After the break the Budleigh control continued, though they had to wait until the 75th minute to add a sixth when Denny scored the goal his all-round shift deserved.
Sub Adam Wilkinson made it 7-0 before a couple of late goals were scored by way of small consolation for the students.
Given that Budleigh boss Kevin Hill was able to field his strongest team to date for this ‘super show’, it seems only logical that if similar elevens can be fielded for the remainder of the campaign then the Robins faithful might well be in for some exciting times ahead!
On Saturday, Budleigh head north to face Ilfracombe in a first round tie in this season’s Walter C Parsons Cup, effectively the South West Peninsula League, league cup competition.
