Brixington Blues Under-13s were 3-2 winners when they met Mid Devon-based CS Cougars in an Exeter and District Youth League cup tie.

Blues began well with skipper Jake Haggerty at the heart of much of the –positive play.

There were no goals in the first half, but Ethan Beverley went close a couple of times while, at the other end of the pitch, Blues glovesman Russ Bracey looked confident with the solid defending of Finn Glanfield and Harrison Fox a real help to his cause.

Early in the second half Elliott Bowyer forced the Cougars glovesman into a smart save before Blues took the lead when a Haggerty free-kick was turned home by Beverely.

Cougars levelled from the penalty spot after Lewis Ayley was harshly treated for what had looked a ‘clean tackle’ and, no doubt still suffering from a feeling of shock at the award of the spot kick, Blues conceded again to trail 2-1!

However, once they regained their composure they were quickly back on level terms with Oliver Bradley scoring a terrific solo goal.

A wonderful goal line clearance from Ayley prevented Cougars regaining the lead before Sam Reay and Ben Gear combined to get the ball to Bradley who again ran at the opposition defence before drilling the ball home to seal a superb 3-2 success.

Finn Glanfield was named the Blues’ Man of the Match.
